SIGNING TRACKER: Former Rangers, Jays prospect Evan Elliott comes aboard
KITCHENER - The Kitchener Panthers pitching staff just got a big boost.
Former Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays farmhand Evan Elliott is heading to Jack Couch Park this summer.
He was a 15th round pick of the Rangers in 2021.
Elliott spent three years with the Rangers' Arizona Complex League affiliate, followed by a stint with the Florida Complex League affiliate of the Blue Jays last summer.
Elliott is a former Canadian Junior National U18 team member, and also represented Ontario at the 2017 Canada Summer Games.
He is also a former player with Virginia Commonwealth University.
An MLB drafted player has been a rarity on the Panthers roster in recent years.
Skylar Janisse, a former Yankees prospect, pitched in a game in 2022. Dan Procopio also signed that year, but didn't play.
Procopio, drafted twice into the MLB (NYM in 2013, LAA in 2017), made three appearances for Kitchener in 2017.
"We are ecstatic to have Evan join us for this season," said general manager Shanif Hirani.
"With a fastball that has been up to 100 mph and a wipeout slider, he will add another weapon to our pitching staff. After spending the last three years in the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays organization, he also will bring valuable high level experience with him."
