KITCHENER - The Kitchener Panthers have locked up its catcher for another season.

Cuban-born Yunior Ibarra will return for his third season at Jack Couch Park. Ibarra's numbers improved year-over-year, hitting .281 in 2024, including three home runs and 41 hits.

He is a fan favourite around the ball park, and has plenty of IBL and international experience.

Considered the best defensive catcher in the league, Ibarra's specialty comes behind the plate, picking off stolen base attempts and working with pitchers.

"We are really excited to have Yunior back with us for this upcoming season," said general manager Shanif Hirani. "His ability behind the plate to control the run game as well as make our pitchers feel comfortable throwing to him is invaluable.

His offensive game has improved in each season he has been with us and it is a luxury to be able to have a Catcher that can impact the game on both sides."

Unlike the last couple seasons, Ibarra is also no longer considered an import player.

Stay tuned for more signings ahead of the 2025 Intercounty Baseball League season!
